How to increase minecraft allocated memory!(Makes minecraft run faster)
Hello. This is a simple guide that many has looked for. Im gonna show you how to increase the number of GB the game uses.
First of all hit the windows flag key, and R. This opens the "Run" window. type in "dxdiag" and a window should pop up. And in the middle of the window you can see that there says how much ram you have, in megabyte, but we want it in gigabyte(Remember! 1GB=1000MB!). Note that you cant do this with a computer with 1gb or RAM, and minecraft must also be closed!
F.Ex. if you have 8 GB on your computer, divide by 2 (4gb), and you will get a good enough amount of gigabyte that minecraft could use. Now comes the little harder part.
Step 1: Open your START menu.
Step 2: Right click COMPUTER and press PROPERTIES
Step 3: This window shows some basic information for your computer. But at the left border you can see a button saying ADVANCED SYSTEMPROPERTIES. Hit it!
Step 4: You can see a butten a little down in that new window that popped up, saying ENVIROMENTAL OPTIONS. Hit it!
Step 5:Create a new line for your own user(the box that is over the other one)
Step 6: Do EXACTLY as said here:
First line: _JAVA_OPTIONS
Second line: -Xmx+g -Xmx-g
Look! The "+" means the amount of GIGABYTE that you want to be max allocated. "DO NOT GIVE IT ALL YOUR RAM! and the "-" means how much you want it to use minimal(I reccomend 1gb lower )
Here is an example that i use for my game:
_JAVA_OPTIONS
-Xmx5g -Xms4g
All capital lettters MUST be capital and all uncapitalised letter must be uncapitalised!
Now you can save it, and close every window.
Run minecraft, hit the F3 button, and you should see up in the right of your screen saying how much ram your game uses and also how much is allocated:). But Minecraft may choose 5mb lower or higher, because it wants to automatically change how much ram it needs, but it wont get so much lower.
Well thats it folks . If you need help post a reply!
This was originally made by me! (Anders287)
EDIT: ANOTHER WAY TO MAKE MINECRAFT EVEN MORE FASTER
Step 1: Open Task manager(Ctrl+Alt+Del)
Step 2: Right click Javaw.exe
Step 3: Set priority -> Very high
This makes the computer know that you really want your memory to go to minecraft, not all those other applications running, but THIS MAY make you computer unstabile, just saying...
Thanks for viewing
